Hikes around the Wörthersee

It is almost a contemplative experience. Step by step. Going for a walk in nature and becoming one with it. Hiking is a wonderful way to experience nature in its purest form. Especially if you come across hardly any other people.

Leisurely hikes and extended tours start directly at the Streklhof. If you have ever hiked here, you know why Carinthia's alpine world fascinates all hiking fans.

The mountain massif of the Karawanken with the majestic Mittagskogel, which rises up to the south of the Streklhof, and the surrounding forested hillsides are popular hiking and excursion destinations.

Hike to Rosegg

Time-on-trail ca. 1.5 hrs., easy. This hike leads along the Drava and includes a visit to Schloss Rosegg and the animal park. For children, the small zoo with a large playground is an absolute hit. And if you work up a hunger, you can feast on the buffet. STREKLHOF TIP: we especially recommend this hike for not-so-hot days.

Streklhof Loop with hike up the Kathreinkogel

Time-on-trail ca. 3 hrs., easy. The hike starts at the Streklhof in Aich on a paved road and leads towards the Schieflinger Wald. The route then leads on natural ground through a magnificent forest area. The ascent to the Kathreinkogel at an elevation of 772 m takes ½ hr. Since 1984, you can see remarkable excavation finds from excavations of three millennia of Roman history. The museum is open daily until mid October from 10 - 4. STREKLHOF TIP: this hike is recommended for hot days, because it leads through the forest.

Forstsee Loop

Time-on-trail ca. 1.5 hrs., easy. The hiking path is ideal for all nature fans who would like to combine a wonderful hike with a refreshing swim in the idyllic Forstsee. It leads around the entire Forstsee and is excellently suited for young and old. A side trip to the romantic "Kleiner See" is very recommended. Directions: Velden on the main road towards Pörtschach – straight ahead – railway crossing in Saag - then turn left towards Forstsee.

Dobratsch Nature Park

It is located in southern Carinthia and was declared a nature reserve in 1942. The Dobratsch Nature Park stands for recreation and nature protection as well as education and regional development. Refreshment opportunities at various alpine huts guarantee a cozy and friendly hut ambiance. Directions: via the Villach Alpine Road – "Villach West" autobahn exit, then the bypass B86 towards Warmbad Villach, from B86 turn off on the Villach Alpine Road.

Weissensee East Shore Hike

Time-on-trail ca. 2 hrs., red markings, easy. This hike along the shore leads to Neusach and Techendorf. From the east shore of the Weissensee, the path leads north to the entrance of Silbergraben gorge. Continue left here on the north shore path (marked in red) to the Ronacherfel. You can return by boat. STREKLHOF TIP: surefootedness and sturdy shoes for the steep part across the Kleine Steinwand are helpful. Directions: towards Villach – A10 towards Salzburg – Feistritz exit, Paternion, Weissensee Ost (driving time 45 min.)

Hike to the Klagenfurter Hütte

Time-on-trail ca. 1.5 hrs., intermediate. At an elevation of 1,664 m, the Klagenfurter Hütte is an alpine hut and a wonderful excursion destination in the Carinthian Karawanken mountains. Located at the southern foot of the Kosiak, you will have a breathtaking view of the mighty cirque of the Hochstuhl. Directions: Feistritz im Rosental via the Bärental to the parking lot. Via the Karawanken autobahn - A11, "St Jakob/Rosental" exit, continue via the main road to Feistritz/Rosental, in Feistritz head towards the Bärental to the parking lot of the Klagenfurter Hütte. Driving time: ca. 30 min.

Directions: from Klagenfurt: A2 "Südautobahn" (south) to the junction in Villach, continue on the A10 Tauern autobahn towards Salzburg and take the first exit "Villach/Ossiacher See", continue to Annenheim - Kanzelbahn

3-Lake Tour on the Turracher Höhe

Time-on-trail ca. 2 hrs., easy. The 3-lake path is a "path of the senses" and is ideal for several variations of mountain walks: short and easy to the Turracher See (30 min) - a little further to the Grünsee and back to the Turracher Höhe (45 min) or the entire 2 hr. tour: coming from the Turracher See, past the Museum Alpin+Art-Gallery, towards the Grünsee. Here are the first stations for your "alpine sensory experience". The path leads past the Karlhütte to the Katscherhütte and continues along the foot of the Schoberriegel towards the Schwarzsee. The path is indicated by red markings with a white "T" and in some areas with wooden pillars with a sign that reads "Turracher 3-Seen-Weg".

Schoberriegel - Turracher Höhe

Time-on-trail ca. 3.5 hrs., intermediate. From Turracher See, this path leads past the Mei Zeit Hütte, the Sonnalm, and the summit station of the Sonnenbahn - with a great panoramic view of Turracher Höhe - up to the Schoberriegel. Between the Sonnalm and Schoberriegel, the path is relatively steep in parts - but it is truly rewarding. Once you have reached the top, the path continues to an elevation of 2,200 m to the next summit - the Gruft. Shortly before reaching the Gruft, you can see a former aircraft landing field from World War II. Past the Schönebennock at an elevation of 2,002 m, the path leads to the Obere Våstlhütte am Sam and continues via Grünsee to Turracher Höhe.

Rinsennock - Turracher Höhe

Time-on-trail ca. 5hrs., intermediate. Starting from the valley station of the panoramic lift, path 149 leads up towards the Kornock. On the ascent, shortly before Gasthof Almstube on the right, you will see the glacial mill - a relic from the ice age. On the Kornock summit, you can enjoy a wonderful panoramic view along the ridge to the Rinsennock. The return trail leads from the summit of the Rinsennock down to the Winkleralm, continues to the Schafalm, and back to the Turracher Höhe.

Weitental and Kaserseen Lakes - Turracher Höhe

Time-on-trail ca. 6 hrs., intermediate. This wonderful hike leads through beautiful parts of the Nockberge mountains. The trail first leads from the Turracher See past Schlosshotel Seewirt to the Schwarzsee and continues into the Weitental to the Engeleriegel. The climb to the Weitental saddle will be rewarded with a view of the Kaserseen lakes. The path leads past these to the Hochkaser, continues to the Obere Våstlhütte am Sam, past the Karlhütte and Grünsee, back to Turracher Höhe. Directions to Turracher Höhe: main road in Velden – towards Pörtschach – turn left in Pörtschach towards Moosburg – Feldkirchen – in Feldkirchen, turn right towards the Nockalmstraße – Turracher Höhe. Driving time: ca. 1 hr. STREKLHOF TIP: on the return trip, drive on the Nockalm panoramic road!


St. Oswald – Mallnock – Klomnock Hike

Time-on-trail ca. 5 hrs., intermediate. Ride up on the Brunnach national park lift. The hike leads along the Brunnachhöhe to the Mallnock at an elevation of 2226m and the Klomnock at an elevation of 2331m. It then takes you along path 1611 down the Flache Scharte past the Lärchenhütte and Falkerthaus to St. Oswald. Starting point: summit station of the Brunnach national park lift. Destination: Mallnock. Length: 11 km, path no.: 161 and 1611

Valerian Hike in Nockberge National Park

Time-on-trail ca. 1.5 hrs., easy. A magnificent panoramic path leads via Bad Kleinkirchheim past a game reserve with red and fallow deer. A refreshing foot bath in mountain spring water followed by the application of an ointment with valerian oil awaits you at the wine tavern. Starting point: Römerbad. Destination: Buschenschank Matl Sepp (wine tavern). Length: 4 km, path no.: 1
